Wicklow Democratic School

Ireland's first Democratic School for self-directed learning, set up by a group of parents - opened in September 2016 in North Wicklow.

At Wicklow Sudbury School we recognise the importance of unstructured play in learning. Students of the school are free to play and fully immerse themselves in whatever passions and interests engage them. Free from scheduled lessons and curriculum, students decide for themselves how to organise their own time. In doing so, they learn to live their own independent lives based on their individual goals and aspirations. Our school is inspired by the work of generations of educationalists and dozens of alternative schools that have proven their value in helping children grow up happily and stay in touch with what moves and motivates them.
