Independent Living Movement Ireland

Disabled Person's Organisation

Independent Living Movement Ireland (ILMI) is a national DPO (Disabled Person's Organisation) working collectively to create an Independent Living Movement in Ireland led by disabled people, promoting a rights-based social model of disability, challenging a charity/medical view of disability.

ILMI works towards the removal of societal barriers that prevent active equal participation of disabled people, challenging the denial of people’s rights and the promotion of the philosophy of Independent Living.

You can get involved in their work through:

  • Collective campaigns where you can get involved to have your voice heard
  • Local, regional and national meetings where you can shape policy
  • Training and discussions on the philosophy of independent living
